In the ultimate expression of regional support, Marlborough food and beverage producers have stepped forward to showcase their products to teams, support crews, event management and media at One NZ GODZONE, kicking off in Marlborough next week.

While One NZ GODZONE teams race over the 615km expedition-length course through Marlborough’s most remote landscapes and waterways, Clive Macfarlane and his team at Boom Town Brewing Co will keep the beers on ice, ready to welcome them across the finish line (at an as yet undisclosed location).

The Blenheim-based brewery has partnered with One NZ GODZONE as a hospitality provider, supplying its locally crafted beers to competitors at the event’s finish.

“We are thrilled to be a part of the 2025 One NZ GODZONE,” says Boom Town Brewing owner Clive Macfarlane. “We are a true local brand that loves Marlborough and its incredible outdoors. One NZ GODZONE is a great fit for us, and we can’t wait for the event to kick off next week!”

Boom Town Brewing Co is an independent New Zealand-owned brewery run by a small, dedicated team in Blenheim. It produces around 100,000 liters of beer a year and was named for Blenheim’s historic nickname ‘Boom Town’.

“We currently produce six beers, plus cider, ginger beer, and alcoholic lemonade,” says Macfarlane. “The beers include our Marlborough Lager, Pelorus Pilsner, Summertime Pale Ale, Alabama APA, Whites Bay IPA, and Ship Cove Stout.”

One NZ GODZONE teams will race from Thursday, 27th November, to Friday, 5th December, with teams expected to complete the unknown course in anywhere from five to seven days.

Boom Town Brewing Co will also play host to the support crews of One NZ GODZONE teams during race week.

“Our HQ is based at our Boom Town Brewery Beer Garden, located in the grounds of Forrest Estate Wines at 19 Blicks Road, Renwick,” says Macfarlane. “ It’s a stunning garden scene with lots of mature trees and water. This is a great place for team support crews to stop by for lunch, use the free wifi to track their team’s progress on the GODZONE live tracking page, and chill out while waiting for teams to arrive at the next transition area.”

Meanwhile, the West Coast Pie company, based in Westport, will provide pies for teams, volunteers, and crew made from locally farmed and harvested meat in Marlborough by Premium Game – Nothing but Nature.

ONE NZ GODZONE spokesperson Rob Nichol says he’s delighted to have local and upper South Island producers supporting the event, which is being held in Marlborough for the first time.

“It’s traditional at GODZONE to be handed a pie and beer as you cross the finish line, “says Nichol, “I know personally how good that cold brew and hot pie tastes after being out in the wilderness – it’s pure gold.”

“When we met Clive at Boom Town Brewing Co, there was an instant connection between his craft beer and GODZONE – we’re stoked to have him part of the event showcasing local beers to the teams and our event sponsors.”

“The West Coast Pie Company produces the best small batch baked pies using premium meats that are farmed and produced locally in Blenheim by Premium Game, who are New Zealand’s leading supplier of 100% wild game meat that is harvested and processed in the most natural way.”

“Together, this is the perfect pie and beer combination for the event’s finale that truly showcases some of the best produce from Marlborough. The teams are going to love it.”
